Ecommerce in Mexico grew by 57% in the second quarter of the year in annualized terms.
The National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services (Condusef) reported Friday that 106 million transactions were made with credit and debit cards between April and June.
The operations are divided as follows: 65% debit and 35% credit.
An important fact is that the amount of purchases is three times higher with credit than with debit. Also, among the most demanded products on the internet are: clothing, footwear, appliances, food and furniture.
On the services side, plane tickets and hotel reservations concentrate most of the purchases.
The growth in the amount of purchases was 29% higher compared to the same period of 2018.
With regard to credit, the increase in value was 20% for the quarter. While the debit registered an increase of 47% in the same period. This somehow also reflects how debit cards have been gaining ground in online purchases in emerging markets.
