The phone continues to grow as the mobile device preferred by Spaniards to make purchases in physical stores, since 31.5% of users pay with it on a regular basis.
This percentage is almost 20% more than two years ago, according to the MasterCard Digital Payment Barometer.
The “contactless” payment has shot up by almost 90% compared to 2015, and has become the payment method used by 65% of Spaniards.
In fact, 53% of respondents say that if all physical stores accept payments with “contactless” technology, they would opt for payment with this type of card, while 33% of them would choose to do so with their mobile .
As with mobile payment, most users already use “contactless” technology regardless of the amount of the purchase to be paid.
The report also confirms the growth of online purchases, since a third of respondents say they shop online at least once a week.
Finally, the study shows that security is essential in online purchases and, when it comes to making purchases through mobile, the preferred method of authentication continues to be the SMS.
Regarding the preference when it comes to identifying themselves in face-to-face payments, there is a division of opinions between those who still prefer the PIN, and those who opt for biometric solutions, such as fingerprinting.
