More and more online payments and purchases are being made in Nicaragua every day, with men representing 9.6% and women 4.1% of a total of 3.1 million active internet users.
Internet use grew by 6.9% year on year in Nicaragua to a total of 3.1 million people which equates to 47% of the population.
Cash is the most common method of payment, compared to credit and debit card use or wire transfers.
Access to banking
Just 2% of Nicaraguans have a credit card, 8% use debit cards, and 14% have a savings account with a financial institution. The country is working to improve these figures by fostering financial education and inclusion.
